Simple Stitch Card
Instructions
Supplies:
Hillcreek
Designs Simple Stitch Card,
Tri
fold with center fold measuring
4 1/4” x 5 1/2”.
Theresa’s Hand Dyed Buttons
Linen
Thread 30/3 Hillcreek
Designs.
Color - Natural.
#20
Tapestry Needle.
Push
Pin or 2 prong Corn Cob Holder, (the corn cob is nice to use to create even
placement of the stitching holes).
Fusible
Web, (I prefer a light weight web).
Double
Stick Tape.
Fabric
Scraps, (novelty prints are a fun way to create themed cards).
Instructions:
· Cut
fusible web slightly larger than actual pattern or novelty print used.
· Trace
design onto the paper side of the web.
Note:
when fused to the fabric the design will face the opposite
direction of the item traced. Follow
Manufactures directions regarding the webbing.
· Fuse
the web into place on backside of selected fabrics as directed by
manufacturer.
· Cut
out designs. Do not remove
paper backing from backside.
· Layer
the pieces. Start with the
largest piece, leave the paper on the backside until you are ready to fuse
all parts to the card. Remove
paper from the back and fuse to the center front of the of the tri-fold
card.
·
Watch the direction the
card folds. Remember you will
have a flap to hide the stitches. Before
fusing check to make sure you have the folds where you want them.
· Use
a
push pin to
make holes in the card. To do
this simply place the front of the card over several layers of quilt
batting..
Using the push pin make
holes anywhere on the card you
want to stitch. Or use the corn cob
holder to make the holes, this will create even stitches as you walk
.the cob holder across
the card placing one end into the previous holes spot.
· Stitch
using Linen Thread. Natural Linen
Thread is nice because it adds texture to the card and it will go with any
color or style. Use tape on backside of card to secure the thread.
· Attach
buttons to card.
Use push pin to make hole in the card while holding the
button on the desired spot. A piece of double stick tape behind the
button will make this step much easier, it will hold it in place while you
sew it in place. Or Lace
linen thread thru
front of card and tie knot on front of button leaving approximately 3/4”
strands of thread as decoration on the card front.
On smaller buttons stitch the button into place securing threads on
backside of the card with tape.
· Fold
card securing the flap which will cover the stitches with double stick
tape. It is best to use the
tape around all edges of the card. Press
firmly to secure..
